The Syracuse Police Department is gathering a list of possible Lateral Police Officers. The work involves responsibilities to enforce federal and state laws and local ordinances and to maintain order in an assigned area.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must meet the Syracuse Police Department's and Onondaga County's Civil Service requirements.
- Must be currently employed with an agency, in the title of Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff, and off of the required probationary period.
- Must have NYS DCJS basic course certificate for Police Officer or certified by NYSDCJS, as a Police Officer.
- Must have been appointed from a Civil Service list; must provide a copy to the roster card, current examination announcement, and current job description; from the Civil Service Agency’s Personnel Department that has implemented the examination, which you are currently hired from.
- Must have a valid New York State Driver's License.
Additional Requirements:
- At time of appointment or within (1) month thereof, the applicant must: a. Obtain residency within the Onondaga County, or one of the contiguous counties to Onondaga (Madison, Oswego, Cortland, or Cayuga).
- Successful completion of Syracuse Police Department's Physical Fitness Test.
- Successful completion of a full background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, and basic medical examination.
