The Syracuse City Police Department’s COPS (Criminal Observation and Protection System) pilot is designed and implemented to help protect the citizens of Syracuse by preventing crime and aiding in the investigation and prosecution of any crime that occurs in the pilot area. Extensive research was completed on the proposed system and use of cameras. This research does indicate that cameras of this nature have a deterrent effect on overall criminal disorder and undoubtedly aid in the investigation and prosecution of criminal behavior.
